Again DIY Sunday bring you plans for a project that
in all honestly might take you a little longer than a
Sunday afternoon. On the other hand, a houseboat
might last you for the rest of your life. Vacation
after vacation spent on lovely floating
living quarters you have built yourself.
And as usuall you can download the plans
for free simply by clicking the icon below
Imagine that. Houseboat in a day…would it be seaworthy?

It would depend on your skills as a carpenter of course 😉

I come from a family where there has been builders and cabinetmakers since medieval times so the skills are in my genes 😉

What a wonderful family tradition! But you decided on another career path, didn’t you?

I chose graphic design, illustration and calligraphy. But I’m a very competent carpenter/cabinetmaker and love working with wood 🙂

There is a natural attraction to timber in me as well. I have a timber home – lots of timber furniture and objects. ( some tell me it reminds them of a norsk hytte!!) I love the warm, earthy tones that timber provides. I am not a fan of the cold sterile, neutral tones. My husband, whilst not a carpenter, like you, enjoys making various things. There is a bit of a dynasty of carpenters in his family too. My children won’t be carrying on that tradition either – one is a musician and the other two are in IT even though the IT guru could make anything out of wood in his school days. I still use quite a few of the tables/ boxes he made. Carpentry is such a useful life skill for young people to have I do hope they keep teaching it in schools and at home.

And there is a continuance in working in wood that fascinates me. People have been making thing out of wood since the neolithic age.

Yes. It is as old as civilisation, even older perhaps?
