Airy Fairy Foundation Butter Cake

1/3 cup shortening 
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup milk
1 3/4 cups Airy Fairy
2 teaspoons baking powder 
1/4 teaspoon salt

Cream the shortening until very soft. Add sugar gradually, beating it in well so that the mixture will be light and creamy. Add well-beaten eggs and flavouring. Add milk alternately with flour, baking powder. and salt, which have been sifted together. Beat the batter until the ingredients are thoroughly blended; about two minutes. Turn into a greased cake pan about 7 1/2 inches square and bake in a moderate oven (350o F.) from 50 to 60 minutes.
