Beer Cake

7 ½ dl [1,6 pt] flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cloves, ground
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons ginger, ground
5 dl [1 pt] sugar
1 egg
1 bottle of beer, light or dark, 33 cl [0,7 pt]

Makes  2 cakes


[1] Butter and sprinkle two oblong bread moulds, ca. 10×30 cm / 4×12 in. Preheat the oven to 200° C / 390° F.

[2] Mix the flour, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon and ginger. Add sugar and egg. Pour in the beer and stir until smooth.

[3] Spread the batter in the prepared moulds and bake in the middle of oven for about 45 minutes. Check with a baking needle to see if the kakes are done.

[4] Let the cakes cool on a rack.
