Belgian Gaufres Bruxelloises – Brussels Waffles

Belgian Gaufres Bruxelloises - Brussels Waffles

Time: about 50 minutes.

For 4 people you need
1 1/4 dl [0,25 pt] milk
10 g [0,35 oz] yeast
300 g [10,5 oz] flour
1/2 lemon
60 g [2 oz] butter
50 g [1,75 oz] sugar
2 eggs
1/8 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoon cream
Butter to brush the waffle iron
icing sugar

This is what you do

[1] Heat the milk to lukewarm and sprinkle in the yeast. Leave it for about 2 minutes before stirring and stir in the flour. Leave the dough to rise about 15 minutes.

[2] Grate the lemon peel. Melt the butter. Stir butter, sugar, egg, salt, lemon peel and cream into the yeast dough to make it light and airy and allow the rise for 15 minutes.

[3] Heat and brush the waffle iron with butter. Fry the waffles golden brown, sprinkle with icing sugar and serve straight from the iron.
