Bishop

A traditional Norwegian hot drink found on meny.no
Bishop

Bishop is traditional Norwegian  hot, alcoholic, spicey drink that reminds of gløgg, just that it also contains orange. This is really something to warm a frozen body on those rainy autumn evenings that’s coming soon. Maybe along with some gingerbread with, for example, blue cheese and figs.

The recipe is for 4-6 servings.

Ingredients

1.5 dl [0,3 pt] black currant cordial
2 dl [0,4 dl] water
6 dl [1,2 pt] red wine
1 orange
50 g [1,75 oz] sugar, or to taste
1 cinnamon stick
5 cloves

Approach

[1] Wash the orange and peel off thin pieces with a potato peel without getting the white below.

[2] Mix the black currant cordial and water and bring to a boil.

[3] Add orange peel and spices and let it simmer 5-10 minutes on medium heat.

[4] add the red wine  and bring close to boiling just before serving.
