A downright decadent hot drink recipe found in
“Whitman’s Chocolate Cookbook” published by
Whitman’s Chocolates Division, Pet Inc in 1987

When the list of ingredients for making this hot chocolate drink runs
down to 11 items one quickly realize that here we’re not talking about
a couple of spoons of instant cocoa stirred into hot milk – Ted

Makes 5 servings

Ingredients
4 cups water
1/2 cup (3 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup Kahlua or other coffee-
flavored  liqueur (optional)
whipped topping, thawed
Ground cinnamon

Approach

[1] In heavy saucepan, combine water, chocolate chips, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Continue to boil until chocolate iscompletely melted. Add coffee granules, stirring until dissolved.

[2] Reduce heat and gradually stir in milk. Stir in vanilla and liqueur, if desired. Pour into mugs; top with whipped topping and sprinkle with cinnamon.
