What You Need to 8 scones:
barely 4 dl (225 g) flour [8 oz.]
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. caraway
½ tsp. anise
about 90 g butter or margarine
½ tsp. salt
if preferred, 1 tsp. sugar
1 ½ dl of mineral water [0,3 pt.]
Mix the flour, baking powder and anise in a bowl.
Add the butter and work it with your fingers into a gritty paste.
Mix in sugar, salt and caraway.
Add the sparkling water and knead the dough quickly with a light hand. It does not need to become a solid dough.
Divide the dough in half and shape pieces into balls that are pressed flat by hand. Cut each portion into four triangles.
Bake triangles in the oven at 225° C / 435° F for about 12 minutes or until done.
Serve hot or lukewarm.
