Chocolate Malties

Makes 20 – 24
oven temperature 180° C/350° F/Gas 4

75 g/3 oz plain chocolate
1/2 cup/75 g/3 oz cream cheese
4 tbsp/50 g/2 oz butter or margarine
1 1/2 tbsp/25 g/1 oz instant rnalted mille pou/der
2,5 ml/1/2 tsp vanilla essence (extract)
2 1/2 cups/375 g/12 oz icíng sugar, sier/ed
45 ml/3 tbsp milk
2 tbsp/200 g/7 oz self-raísing flour
2.5 ml/1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp/25 g/1 oz softened butter or margarine
2 egg
45 ml/3 tbsp milk

[1] Melt the chocolate, cool slightly.

[2] Beat together the cream cheese, butter or margarine, malted milk powder and vanilla essence.

[3] Beat in the icing sugar and milk alternately. Beat in the melted chocolate.

[4] Remove 225 g/8 oz of the chocolate mixture. Cover and reserve for the icing.

[5] Sieve together the flour and baking powder.

[6] Beat the softened butter into the chocolate mixture.

[7] Beat in the eggs.

[8] Stir in the flour alternately with the milk.

[9] Put paper cases (cupcake papers) into patty tins (muffin pans) and fill 2/3 full with the mixture.

[10] Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes. Cool.

To serve

Ice the cakes with the reserved chocolate icing. Decorate with chocolate buttons if you wish.
