Fish gratin is a classic Norwegian dinner dish. It’s a simple, fast and child-friendly way to cook fish. It has always been one of my favorites, whether made with potatoes, macaroni or shellfish like here.
Preparation: about 10 min.
Cooking time: 12-15 min.
Oven temperature: 200-225° C / 390-435° F
Middle shelf in the oven
Can not be frozen.
About 400 g [0,9 lb] boiled, cleaned white fish without bones
200 g [7 oz] cleaned shrimp (optional)
2 dl [0,4 pt] cream, 35%
2 tablespoons flour
4-5 tablespoons grated cheese
Salt, pepper, nutmeg
Parsley or dill
Butter 4 portion ramkins and distribute fish, finely chopped onions and if you use it cleaned shrimps in the ramkins. Drizzle some lemon juice over each.
Whip the eggs together with cream, flour, grated cheese and spices. Pour the mixture into the ramkins and bake as indicated. Sprinkle with parley or dill before serving.
Serve the gratin hot with lemon wedges, white bread and soft butter, stirred with lemon juice and grated horseradish.
