1 kg boiled apples (2 lb)
300 g sugar (1 1/2 cup)
300 g of crushed dried bread (10,5 oz)
50 g margarine (1,75 oz)
Red Currant jelly
 Peel the apples, remove the cores and cut each apple in four. Boil the apples in a little water in a pan with lid until they are tender. Stir in half of the sugar and the vanilla essence. Cool.
 Mix the bread with the rest of the sugar and brown it in margarine. Cool.
 Lay alternating layers of browned bread and apple mixture in a dessert bowl, starting and finishing with bread.
 Garnish with jelly and whipped cream.
