Danish Apple Dessert

Danish Apple Dessert

1 kg boiled apples (2 lb)
300 g sugar (1 1/2 cup)
vanilla essence
300 g of crushed dried bread (10,5 oz)
50 g margarine (1,75 oz)
Red Currant jelly
Whipped cream


[1] Peel the apples, remove the cores and cut each apple in four. Boil the apples in a little water in a pan with lid until they are tender. Stir in half of the sugar and the vanilla essence. Cool.

[2] Mix the bread with the rest of the sugar and brown it in margarine. Cool.

[3] Lay alternating layers of browned bread and apple mixture in a dessert bowl, starting and finishing with bread.

[4] Garnish with jelly and whipped cream.
