Fruit Bars

Ingredients
3/4 cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup melted shortening
2 eggs, well beaten
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup chopped pitted dates

Method

[1] Set oven for moderate, 350° F. Grease a 9-inch square mould.

[2] Mix and sift the flour, baking powder and salt. Add sugar, mix well. Combine shortening and eggs, stir in the dry ingredients, blend well. Stir in nuts and dates. Turn into mould, bake 30 minutes or until brown. Cut into bars while hot.
