Galia Melon Jam


000_nettmelon_crGalia Melon has a distinctive grid pattern on the shell. The shell has a base color that is bright yellow, and the web pattern is gray-white to almost golden brown. Galia Melon is a big and round melon with a yellow and juicy pulp. It is actually somewhat larger than all the other sugar melons and can reach a weight up to 3-4 kg. The taste is aromatic, sweet and delicious.

1 galia melon (about 1,75 kg/3,85 lb)
1 1/4 dl [0,25 pt] water
1 kg [2,2 lb] sugar
juice of 2 lemons


[1] Cut the melon in two, remove the shells and seeds and cut the flesh into large cubes. Weigh the pulp, this recipe is based on 1 1/2 kg/ 3,3 lb melon pulp.

[2] Boil the water and sugar and simmer for a few minutes. Add the melon cubes and lemon juice.

[3] Boil the jam at low heat for about 1 hour. Stir gently occasionally and remove any foam.

[4] Pull the pan away from the heat and stir in the preservative according to the instructions on the package.

[5] Spoon the jam into clean, warm glasses and close them immediately.
