Ice Cream Chocolate Punch

A children friendly punch recipe foun in “The New Sealtest Book
of Recipes and Menus” published by Sealtest Inc in 1940Ice Cream Chocolate Punch

4 oz chocolate
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups hot water
2 1/4 quarts milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 quart Vanilla ice cream
Whipped cream
Red and green sugar


Combine chocolate, sugar, salt and water in the top of a double boiler placed directly over the heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly Stir over low heat for about 3 minutes. Place over hot water and add the milk gradually. When hot beat with a rotary beater until smooth. Add vanilla. Chill and pour into a punch bowl. Add one half of the ice cream and stir until partially melted. Sweeten the whipped cream and flavor with a little peppermint if desired. Place on top of the first mixture alternately with the remaining ice cream. Sprinkle the cream with colored sugar. (To make colored sugar, rub a little coloring into granulated sugar.)

Serves twelve.
