Norwegian Beef and Beer Casserole

A lovely hearty casserole dish found on
Norwegian Beef and Beer Casserole

Treat yourself to this delicious warming beef casserole,
perfect for those cold winter evenings.

2 tablespoon olive oil
800 g [1,75 lb] of beef, diced
1 onion, sliced
2 celery stalks, coarsely chopped
2 carrots, roughly chopped
2 tablespoons flour
1 can of dark beer
2.5 dl [0,5 pt] beef stock
1 tablespoon Worchestershire sauce
20 g [0,7 oz] butter


[1] Heat half of the oil in a deep frying pan and brown the meat over medium heat.

[2] Remove the meat and fry the onion, carrots and celeries soft in the rest of the oil. Stir in garlic and cook for one minute. Stir in the flour and cook for two minutes. Stir in the beer and bring to a boil. Let simmer for five minutes.

[3] Put the meat back in the pan and add the stock and Worchestershire sauce and cook under a lid. Let the pot simmer for half an hour under cover, then without lid for half an hour until the sauce has thickened somewhat.

[4] Stir in the butter and server with boiled potatoes.
