About 1 kg potatoes
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic
salt, black pepper
4-5 tablespoons fresh basil
 Peel the potatoes and cut them into uniform pieces. Brown them lightly golden in butter and 1 tablespoon oil in a deep pan and sprinkle with salt.
 Clean and chop the onions, mix them with the potatoes and cook on low heat until everything is tender. Turn the mixture often so that the potatoes get evenly browned.
 Mix crushed garlic with 1 tablespoon olive oil and chopped basil. Pour this over the potatoes. Serve hot with fried dishes of meat, fish or poultry.
