A recipe from “Norsk Ukeblads Store Salatbok” (Norsk Ukeblad’s Big Salad Book) published in 1984
Make this salad, fill suitable containers with it. Bring it, fresh bread or rolls and something nice to drink to the park, the beach, the woods or where ever you fancy holding your picnic. And remember, have a good time – That’s an order – Ted 😉
A classic Lancashire dish very well suited for picnics found on TescoRealFood
Potted shrimps are a traditional Lancashire dish made with brown shrimp flavoured with nutmeg or other spices. The dish consists of brown shrimp in spice flavoured butter, which has set in a small pot. It is traditionally eaten with bread. The butter acts as a preservative.
Potted shrimp was a favourite dish of Ian Fleming who passed on his predilection for the delicacy to his famous fictional creation James Bond. Fleming reputedly used to eat the dish at Scott’s Restaurant on Mount Street in London where it is still served to this day.
It’s a little early for picnics here in in Norway yet, but the weather forecast for the weekend is very good and as we say here “There’s nothing called bad weather, only bad clothing”. So dressing right, maybe it’s time for packing the years first picnic basket.
I must admit I’m a real sucker for picnics. My girlfriend and I do picnics from late spring to way into the autumn and Oslo is just about perfect for it. Lovely large parks, the town is surrounded by woodlands perfect for hikes and it has a multitude of public beaches on both sides of the fjord. Who wouldn’t go on picnics in a place like this – Ted
